Our signature breakfast blend is a combination of teas from Kenya and Sri Lanka with the hard water of Norwich in mind. Hard water, with its high mineral content, can alter the taste of tea, often making it taste more astringent or bitter. To counteract this, a blend should have a strong, robust flavour profile that can stand up to the minerals without becoming overpowering or losing its nuances.

The Kenya tea brings a malty, almost honeyed richness, which pairs beautifully with hard water’s mineral qualities, allowing it to shine without becoming too bitter or overly tannic. The Ceylon provides a lively, zesty element that adds complexity to the blend. This brightness helps lift the overall flavour and prevents the tea from feeling too heavy or flat when brewed with hard water. The combination results in a smooth yet invigorating cup that is neither too sharp nor too bitter. The malty notes from Kenya mellow out the slight astringency often found in hard water, while the Ceylon adds a refreshing lift.

 

Use a level teaspoon per cup.

Infuse for 3-5 minutes at 100°C.

A 20g Taster will make 10 250ml cups of tea.
